Six degrees of Separation is a satirical dramatic tinker create verb all toldy by John Guare in 1994. The admit is about a adolescent man, capital of Minnesota, who cons different people into judge him into their family and befriend him. The play centres around Paul meeting a couple, Flan and Ouisa Kittredge, who are upper class young Yorkers. Paul tells the Kittredges that he is a friend of their children who pursue Harvard University and that he is similarly the son of Sydney Poitier. When Ouisa and Flan realise the truth, they discoer that Paul has besides conned to a greater extent than of their friends. When Paul cons a young, poor couple and steals all their money, the young man is overcome with grief and commits suicide. Paul calls Ouisa and Ouisa convinces him to contort himself over to police with the promise that she will regularly learn him in gaol. Six degrees of Separation is heavily influenced by the legend catcher in the Rye and this is reflected throu gh the personalities and behaviours of many of the characters. Guare has include oft satire in the play and this can be reflected in many ways through the double-sided Kandinsky painting the Kittredges throw and display in their apartment. The painting reflects the satire of the severaliseing characters of the Kittredges and Paul, Pauls two different personas and also the brush between Ouisa and Flans personality, especially towards the end of the play. The two-sided Kandinsky reflects the telephone circuit between Flan and Ouisa to Paul. Flan and Ouisa lead an ordered lifestyle which is represented by the geometric side of the Kandinsky painting, while Paul leads a more irrational and ever-changing life which is represented by the undercover side of the Kandinsky. Guare has satirised the characters in the play by over exaggerating the more stereotyped personalities of the characters in the play. An example of this in the play is; TessYou went to Cats.
